Andrew Cuomo is the son of Mario Cuomo who was New York’s governor from 1983 to 1994. He served as an advisor in his father’s administration after graduating from Albany Law School in 1982. He left his mark on his father’s policies at the same time that he cut his teeth in the field of politics.
Bill Clinton was impressed with Andrew Cuomo and brought him into the Clinton administration as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1997 to 2001. He has since found his niche as New York State’s Attorney General since 2006 where he has taken on high profile cases which he has won handily.
Andrew Cuomo’s family name recognition gives him an edge in his political undertakings. Also, he was married to Robert Kennedy’s daughter Kerry until 2005. They have three daughters. He maintains a low profile as far as his personal life is concerned.
Cuomo has been accused of having an abrasive personality which he seems to have held in check against his opponent Carl Paladino. His strong work ethic and his ability to get the job done make him a popular candidate for the immense job ahead of him if he wins the race for Governor of New York State.
New York State is in serious trouble. The projected deficit for 2010-2011 is now $8.2 billion. The state needs a leader who will make the right decisions on how to turn the tide.
Carl Paladino was unknown prior to this year with the exception of business interests in western New York and politicians in Albany. Constituents initially rallied behind Paladino’s campaign cry – I’m Mad As Hell and I’m Not Going to Take it Anymore.
I have not heard the phrase Loose Cannon applied to Carl Paladino, bit is seems to be an apt description. I feel a genuine fear if this candidate is given the reins to our state. He has stated to Reporter Fred Dicker “I’ll take you out.” He has made overt anti-gay remarks and other confrontational remarks which are scary.
It is good news that the polls now show that Andrew Cuomo is well ahead of Carl Paladino, the latest percentages being 55-35% in favor of Cuomo. We can now breathe a little easier.
