In Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Lambo, a five year old from the Bovino Family who become Tsunayoshi Sawada’s Guardian of Thunder, is the owner of the miraculous weapon known as the ‘Ten-Year Bazooka‘. When Lambo can’t stay calm, this item makes an appearance. He pulls out this purple bazooka from his hair, sets it down, climbs in and BOOM! The five year-old in the cow print pajamas is gone and in his place is his fifteen year old self, stronger and ready to fight. The only catch? This lasts for a grand total of five minutes before the effect wears off and the swap is over.
Five minutes seems like a short amount of time, but in five minutes, a lot can happen.
Imagine, you’re being bullied by a group of no-gooders. They surround you and you can handle it. What do you do? Pull your ‘Ten-Year Bazooka‘ out of your hair and jump in it. After the smoke fades away, what happens? Your ten-year older self is present and ready to handle the situation. Ten years makes a difference in a person, a big difference. The decade older version of yourself would be able to handle the situation in whatever way they can – there, however, is no promise that everything will be better when you return after the five minute interval.
Or better yet, imagine a situation where the vivid strands of lightning coming closer as every second passes. The loud roar thunder envelopes you in a blanket of unknown. You look in front of you and there’s a large man with umberellas sticking out of his back staring you down, ready to beat you to oblivion. What do you do? Pull out your ‘Ten-Year Bazooka‘ and even out the playing field. Sure, the situation isn’t exactly the most realistic, but it makes sense.
I, personally, would love to have this weapon and why wouldn’t I? When there are situations I wouldn’t be able to handle, it’d be nice to sneak away and let a more mature me handle the situation. Far-fetched and kind of weird, but it’d be pretty cool.
Besides, who wouldn’t want to get a clue of where they would head off in the future?
