The AP Top 25 rankings for week four of the college football season are out. The week four AP Top 25 rankings have Alabama again in the No. 1 spot, but they are further ahead now, with 53 first place votes. They are followed by Ohio State, Boise State, and TCU in the rankings still, with Oregon at No. 5 and now Nebraska up to No. 6 with an impressive victory over the Washington Huskies up in Seattle.
Finishing out the Top 10 is Texas at No. 7, then Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas as the new arrival to the Top 10. Iowa had a tough loss to Arizona over the weekend, and that cost them a lot of rank spots, as they are now down to No. 18 in the week four AP Top 25. Arizona on the other hand, is now all the way up to No. 14, giving the Pac-10 another high rankings team.
These new college football rankings have Stanford up to No. 16, USC at No. 20, and Oregon State at No. 24 to fill out the rest of the Pac-10 teams. Don’t sleep on the Big Ten Conference though, as Michigan is up to No. 21 and Michigan State now appears in the AP Top 25 for the first time this year after a very nice victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday. That win (in overtime) marked the arrival of this Michigan State Spartans team into the big picture.
Only one team fell out of the AP Top 25 this week, and that was Houston, who had a very rough loss to UCLA over the weekend. They were replaced by Michigan State in the Top 25, but otherwise the group of teams remained the same. Air Force was one vote from making it into the poll, despite posting their first loss of the season on Saturday against Oklahoma.
Due to Nebraska going up to No. 6, it pushed Texas and Oklahoma down one spot, and also allowed Florida to get a bit closer down at No. 9. Boise State is also stuck in the No. 3 slot, and might be fore quite a while as they face a weaker schedule as the season progresses. And then we have that one voter that still thinks Texas should be ranked No. 1 in the country, and they are sticking to that again this week.
