Apples – one of the world’s favorite fruits. Applesauce, apple turnovers, apple pie – there’s no end to the treats you can make from apples. Whether there’s an upcoming holiday, or you just got a good deal on apples at the supermarket, you can’t go wrong with an apple dessert. The main problem is that apple dishes generally take time and effort.
Almost any apple recipe calls for the apples to be peeled and cored so that’s a little work right off the bat. Some apple recipes require you to do quite a bit of additional preparation and cooking to create the finished dish. Whether you’ve got a party going on, or would just like to serve something a little different for a holiday, try an apple pie dip complete with chips. Since you don’t have to roll out pie crusts, or do any baking, you might not ever eat ordinary apple pie again!
Peel, core and dice one and a third cups of apples. This recipe can be adjusted to make more or less of the dip. Pour in a teaspoon of lemon juice and sprinkle in two teaspoons of brown sugar. Add two teaspoons of apricot preserves and an eighth of a teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir all the ingredients until they are well-blended. Since stirring the mix leaves the bowl a little messy, you can pour the mixed ingredients into a clean bowl or use a paper towel to wipe the excess off from around the top of the inside of the bowl. Cover the apple dip with plastic wrap and set in the refrigerator to chill.
Make delicious chips to go along with the dip by using flour tortillas. Five of the 6″ size is enough to use for the dip you’ve made. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking sheet and lay the tortillas out on it. Cut them into wedge shapes then brush them with melted butter. Generously sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on them and bake until brown – about 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving.
Apple pie dip is a nice dessert for a holiday but just as appropriate for a kids’ birthday party or a snack for the family. After the apples are peeled, cored and diced the rest is a breeze. Your friends and family will love apple pie dip so much that none of you will probably ever choose regular apple pie again!
