One of my husbands favorite snack foods is trail mix. When he was buying special foods for his hunting trip, he bought two bags of Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix from our local Target store.
This trail mix comes in a one pound bag. The front of the bag is clear so you can see the contents, while the back of the bag is silver. The top of the bag has a notch on each side that allows you to easily tear the top off, without the use of a knife or scissors. Below this tear strip is a thick and sturdy zipper style closure, so the snack stays fresh for a long time (but it doesn’t last very long around our home!).
Archer Farms foods are sold at Target stores, and are distributed by the Target Corporation. This bag retailed for about six dollars, which we felt was a good price. Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix contains peanuts, M&M’s chocolate candies, raisins, chocolate chips and peanut butter chips. The company promises “Tasty Food, Tasty Price”, and and say their “Premium Food Products” are satisfaction guaranteed.
If you like trail mix like we do, I think you will be pleased with the taste and quality of Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix. It has a plentiful supply of peanuts, but these don’t taste like salted peanuts, which makes them healthier. In fact, the back of the bag states that one serving, which is one fourth of a cup, contains only 25 milligrams of sodium, and that is only one percent of the USDA daily value.
The raisins and plump and juicy, and although I am not a huge raisin lover, I really like the taste when the raisins are blended with the chocolate and peanut butter flavors. There are also a lot of M&M’s candies, as well as peanut butter flavored chips in this trail mix.
I know that typically most trail mixes are not low in fat or calories, and this one is no exception. The one fourth cup serving contains a whopping two hundred calories and eleven grams of fat! I can sit down and consume a cup or two at a time, without even realizing it, and that really does not fit into my diet plans.
The upside is that this same sized serving is indeed more than empty calories, because it does give the body five grams of protein, and one gram of dietary fiber. There are twenty two grams of carbohydrates, and of course there is a lot of sugar, seventeen grams to be exact.
As far as other nutritional benefits of the Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix, one serving provides the body with four percent of your daily recommended amount of calcium, and four percent of your daily recommended iron. I don’t know about you, but as a female in menopause, I can use the extra iron, and this is a very delicious way to get it!
To conclude, Archer Farms Monster Trail Mix is a very tasty snack. There are no dried fruits other than the raisins, and the only nuts it contains are peanuts. However, the plentiful amounts of chocolate and the great peanut butter flavored chips make this an indulgent, almost dessert like snacking treat.
