In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights has hosted an art exhibit featuring two Dominican born artists, free and open to the public. But with a short time remaining, opportunities to take in this exhibit are becoming more limited.
Titled Breaking the Sea, the exhibit includes works by Scherezade Garcia and Iliana Emilia Garcia, brought to St. Francis and sponsored by the Spanish division of the school’s foreign language department.
Both immigrants themselves, the artists’ work explores the “process” and experience of immigration.
“The base of my work is the emotional history of things” says Iliana Emilia Garcia as quoted on the website, rather than the physical history.
Both artists currently live in New York and have had work featured in multiple galleries in the area.
The exhibit is displayed at St. Francis’ Callahan Center and is open during “normal business hours.” St. Francis is located at 180 Ramsen st, in Brooklyn Heights.
Check the website for more details and to read more about the artists.
