For Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, 2011 should be a year to remember with plans of bringing a child into the world. Carey has had a successful, long-lasting career as an entertainer-mostly as a Grammy Award winning performer. Her most recent album may be her last album for awhile. Carey, who is now in her early 40’s, is still a strong performer and her Christmas album entitled “Merry Christmas II You” is expected to be a strong album despite the majority of songs being Christmas songs. One of Carey’s surprise hits that became a 12-time certified platinum song was “All I Want for Christmas”.
The following are my Top 5 Favorite Mariah Carey Albums:
1. Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” album which was released in 1990 is Carey’s first and best album in my opinion. Carey’s first effort was very memorable and was the beginning of a long, successful career. “Vision” crossed-over to the pop charts, but she was an instant fan favorite on the R&B charts.
2.The Emancipation of Mimi , which was released in 2005, was probably her best effort in nearly a decade. At this point, she had some good songs. However, she had struggled personally and dealt with divorce earlier in the decade. The Emancipation of Mimi was the magical tenth album and was the recipient of a Grammy the following year after “Mimi” was released.
3. Butterfly was released in 1997, and this was a creative album, but the first single, Honey was the driving force behind this album. Carey had been classified a pop singer, but her collaboration with rap producer Sean Combs added something to the song that gave her a new look. The “Honey” remix was a large success and is one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs.
4. Merry Christmas is on my Top 5 list. Normally, I wouldn’t put a Christmas album on the list, but with Mariah, I would make an exception. In the last twenty years, Boyz II Men’s’ “Let IT Snow” and Mariah’s “AlI Want for Christmas” are two of my favorite holiday songs. “All I Want” sold twelve million copies of this song worldwide
5.Emotions is Carey’s second album and was released in 1991. “Emotions” is one of the songs that helped to show off her vocal ability and there were two other songs which were really noteworthy. One in particular was “Make It Happen”.
