When running your car through an automatic car wash there is potential danger to the exterior of the vehicle. When anything comes in contact with your car there is always a potential of exterior damage. This damage can range from blemish causes to the surfaces on the car to mirror, wipers, or other extremities being ripped from the car. There are several types of automatic carwashes and each could possibly cause damage in its own way.
In the type of automatic car wash that pulls your vehicle through on a track there is extreme contact on all surfaces of your car. The wheels could be damaged by the track itself. The painted surfaces could be damaged by the brushes that wash the car. Mirrors, windshield wipers, or antennae’s could be torn off the car by those same brushes.
In another kind of automatic carwash you park the car in the middle of a rotating brush system that turns around the vehicle as it washes it. This in my opinion is the most dangers of sorts for your vehicle. After you park your vehicle in the middle of the track rotating brushes circle the vehicle to wash and rinse it. The rotating brushes could easily become dislodged from the track and smack into your vehicle. It is also possible that you didn’t park correctly causing the brushes to hit your car.
The least abrasive of all automatic car washes are the ones that only use high pressure water to clean your car. These car washes are the least likely to hurt your car during the washing and rinsing process since nothing physically touches the car except for water. High pressure automatic car washes are not recommend if you have paint that is already bubbling, peeling, or chipping from the vehicle. The high pressure will blow loose paint chips off.
Even though there are risks to running your car through automatic car washes the true chances of something happening to your car is very slim. I have run my car through these automatic car washes many times and each time I have left without a scratch on my vehicle. All my mirrors and wipers are still attached. Even though nothing has ever happened to my vehicle I still understand that there is a possibility that it could happen. Nothing is perfect. Not even the machine used to wash your car.
