Have you seen the prices on those door covers you use to decorate your front door for a baby shower? Wow! That money can be well-spent elsewhere since you can easily make your own door banner to welcome your guests to the shower. There are different ways to make the door cover so it’s the perfect decoration to fit any budget. Make one for under a dollar or spend just a little more to make a much nicer one.
A large white trash bag is perfect for creating the baby shower door cover. If the trash bag is one that requires a twist-tie to close it you won’t have to cut a section from the top of it. If the bag has handle ties or a drawstring cut the top section off of the bag to begin. Afterward, cut down the sides of the bag to open it up into one long piece.
If you are looking for a really cheap version of the door cover you can simply write on it with a pink or blue marker. Draw outlines of teddy bears, do balloon lettering, draw stripes – there are lots of different designs you can do to make the banner you want.
You have lots of choices when it comes to making a slightly nicer door cover. Use blue or pink ribbon to create stripes down the trash bag. Or, use colored tape to make the stripes. Don’t want stripes? Use pink or blue dot stickers all over it then use stickers to spell out any message you want. A small list of things you can use to make a nice baby shower door cover include paint markers, rubber stamps, nail polish, images cut from gift wrap or paper, peel-n-stick stars or other shapes or even metallic tape. The tape dispenses like Scotch tape and makes it easy to create an elegant border around the door cover.
The door cover can contain a “Welcome” message for the guests or can just be a large announcement of the baby’s birth. The cover can be just images or can be a combination of words, phrases and images. You can make the door cover to decorate the entire door or make a smaller version that hangs on a wall inside. For the inside banner, cut the top off if necessary, cut down the sides, open the trash bag up, then cut a long section from it. Decorate it as you will. Door covers can cost ten bucks or more if you buy them, but if you make them yourself, you can invest less than a buck! You can’t beat that deal!
