There is not much to do or see in Bakersfield California. However for a city in the Central Valley Bakersfield is big and has lots of business many which are based around agriculture. So you may find yourself in Bakersfield for work. Enough meetings are held in Bakersfield that they have their own convention center. If you are going to be going to Bakersfield for business then you will probably want to be as close to the convention center as possible. The Bakersfield Marriott is right at the convention center and a good hotel option.
If you have ever stayed at a Marriott before you should have some idea of what to expect out of the Bakersfield Marriott At the Convention Center. This Marriott is located at 801 Truxton Avenue Bakersfield, California.
The hotel has many amenities such as a pool, spa, and health club. There is also a bar and restaurant as well. They have some meeting rooms if the convention center is bigger then you need. They even have a small store that sales food, toiletries, and even ties if you find you are in need of one.
The lobby is large and has lots of room. There are many comfortable chairs and coaches in the lobby. There is even a fireplace for cold nights. The bar is located in a corner of the lobby and seems to always have at least some people at it. The restaurant is also next to the lobby and has a fair number of people at it when it is open.
The pool is right off the lobby and is very small and narrow only being 5 feet deep at the deepest. It is an outside pool and gets cold in the fall and winter. The spa is decent and is warm even in the fall. The workout room is nice and has dressing rooms for guests. The machines also have LCD TVs and you can pick up complimentary headphones at the front desk. There are some free weights, weight equipment, mirrors, treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines. It is a pretty good fitness center compared to most.
One odd thing is that the elevator use a room key to get it to work so only can come in which was a nuisance as well as being a little disconcerting. The hotel is in Dowtown Bakersfield and looks to be a bad area so this precaution makes you concerned but the hotel and nearby convention center seemed to be safe and nice.
The rooms were nice. They had free wifi but they also had cables in the drawers if you needed them to access the net. If you have an Apple iPod they have an alarm clock that you can hook your iPod into but it has to be the Apple. The TVs were HD LCD and had a good amount of HD cable programs. There were also movies you could rent as well. The walls were thick keeping noise from neighbors to a minimum. The bathtub was large and they had bathrobes as well as towels for you. The room did not have any food amenities other then a coffee maker but no refrigerator, or microwave.
The hotel seems to cater to mostly professionals. There were a few kids and families in the Hotel but it was predominantly professionals. This means that you can expect some quiet at this hotel. The rooms are pricey if you are used to cheap motels with the family but for a hotel that caters to business clientele is reasonable. If you are going on a business trip to Bakersfield then this is a good choice for a motel for you.
