Your son or daughter’s big birthday party is coming up and of course you’ll have balloons. What’s a party without them? This year, don’t worry about what to give the kids as party favors when they leave; make the balloons be the decorations as well as the party favors! It’s easy to conceal small gifts inside blown-up balloons and kids will love the surprises!
You’ll find many different things that will fit inside a balloon when you visit a craft store or even a dollar-theme store. Stickers, Pixie Sticks, earrings, beaded necklaces, lip balm, fake money rolled into a tube shape, or even marbles are all choices for filling the balloons.
The balloons can be filled with helium or can be simply blown up with air. You can write a child’s name on each balloon, to make sure each child gets what you want him to have, or you can let them randomly select the balloon they want. The balloons can be scattered around the room or hung up to decorate. Kids can play games with the balloons, and come by their party favor in that manner, or you can just hand each child a balloon as they leave the party. You can have just one balloon per child or you can have several.
One way to let the kids receive their party favors is to just announce that it’s time to pop the balloons. Kids can stomp them, sit on them or otherwise pop them, and retrieve the prize inside. To make it more fair you can give each child a certain amount of balloons.
If you’d like to give the kids a party favor that won’t fit in the balloon you can place a small piece of paper inside each balloon. The paper can state what prize the child has won. Or, you can play a game where the kids all try to pop their balloons at the same time. Each time a balloon is popped an adult will keep track of who popped it. When the balloons are all popped the kids can stand in line, in order of who popped his balloon first, and select a prize from a table.
You can use regular balloons to give away the birthday party favors or you can purchase special balloons that are made to hold toys inside. These balloon kits, complete with tube for inserting the toys, are available at craft stores. It’ll be another wonderful birthday party this year!
