The Baltimore Ravens travel to the Georgia Dome Thursday night November 11th to take on the Atlanta Falcons in the first NFL Network game of the year. This Thursday game could be the game of the weekend with a potential high scoring offense taking on one of the top defenses in the NFL.
The Baltimore Ravens are back in action after a win over the Miami Dolphins following their bye week and put to rest memories of an overtime win in which they gave up 374 yards passing to the Buffalo Bills. The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a hard fought win against NFC South foe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Baltimore Ravens Defense vs Atlanta Falcons Offense
374 yards passing to the Buffalo Bills was a hard stat to chew on for the Baltimore Ravens, one of the best defenses in the NFL. The irony of the passing yards being given up by the Baltimore Ravens was the return of Ed Reed. Reed is the one player in the Baltimore Ravens secondary that can turn the tide of a football game single handed. With Reed back in the line up it may have thrown the defense off its game just a bit and week of rest may do the trick for the Baltimore Ravens defense.
The Atlanta Falcons have not posted up huge numbers through the air. They are only averaging just over 230 yards in the passing department but on the ground the Atlanta Falcons are averaging over 130 yards. Matt Ryan is developing into the perfect leader for this offense and his number one wide receiver, Roddy White has become a top five wide receiver in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons offense has a slight advantage on the home turf at the Georgia Dome over the Baltimore Ravens.
Atlanta Falcons Defense vs Baltimore Ravens Offense
Defense for the Atlanta Falcons has been stout against the run but they have been giving up over 260 yards through the air. The front defensive line is the strong suit of the Atlanta Falcons and their secondary is weak against the pass. Against a team like the Baltimore Ravens with good route runners and deep out route receivers the Atlanta Falcons could be vulnerable if Joe Flacco has time.
Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens offense has disappointed to this point of the season. They have dropped their production in the running game and Flacco has failed to make the best use of his talented receivers. This game will be a true test for Flacco and his passing abilities against an Atlanta Falcons secondary that is ripe for the picking against a good passer. The Baltimore Ravens offense has a slight edge over the Atlanta Falcons defense.
