The Bargemusic Concerts series has offered a unique classical music experience for 33 years, transforming a renovated old coffee barge parked beneath the Brooklyn Bridge into a world class concert venue.
The epilogue (or perhaps culmination) of founder Olga Bloom’s career as a violinist and violist, Bargemusic began in 1977 and produces well over 200 concerts every year. Combining an intimate setting with stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan, Bargemusic creates an unparalleled musical experience that is made accessible to everyone regardless of financial means.
The prices, while affordable, could certainly be sold for much more as the venue seats a cozy 120-130 people. Despite already accessible ticket prices beginning at $25-35 and significantly reduced prices for seniors and students, however, Bargemusic also regularly offers free concerts (if on an irregular schedule), so truly there is no reason anybody cannot partake of the experience.
The Barge is currently dry-docked, however, and concerts are on hold through October 22nd 2010, with Bargemusic to reopen the evening of the 22nd with an 8pm concert (regular tickets $25, seniors $20, students $10) and a free concert the next day, October 23rd at 1pm. The next free concert after that is scheduled for November 20th.
