While some take heart in this new Barney’s location opening up on Atlantic Avenue in Carroll Gardens, they are not in the majority. Moreover many of them seem to have ulterior motives for their love of the store.
As reported in the New York Observer (1), Carroll Gardens resident Linda Berminghman told the Post of the Barney’s opening, “I think this is great! My daughter is 20 and she’s coming home from college this weekend because Barneys is opening.”
While we all can’t be so frivolous about our weekends anymore, Ms. Berminghman seems to have the emphasis on the last moments of her young daughter-time than on any fancy for the retailer.
Brooklyn College law student Tony Consiglio took a different tact, telling the Post, “I can’t even afford to look!” Barneys, he exclaimed, “…changes the character of the neighborhood.”
If anyone thought that yesterday would always be the same as tomorrow, they were living in a dream world. However this Barneys instillation may finally shake the cobwebs for some and allow others to grieve and move on.
