The Bowl Championship Series hierarchy must be shaking in their boots as teams with high BCS rankings bite the dust on a wild Halloween weekend. Michigan State and Missouri were both overrated but undefeated. The Missouri Tigers were actually a seven point underdog as was Michigan State. This reflects back to the fact that the Las Vegas bookmakers know more about ranking the teams than the coaches, writers and computers.
No. 5 Michigan State Spartans 6 vs No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes 37
The Michigan State Spartans were no match for a healthy Ricky Stanzi as the Iowa Hawkeyes rolled to an easy 37-6 victory on Halloween Eve. This Big 10 match up was expected to be a tight game despite the fact that the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook set the line on this game at seven points. The game was never in doubt as Stanzi and the Iowa Hawkeyes buried the Michigan State Spartans 30-0 at the half. Stanzi threw for three touchdowns and Adam Robinson added two more in a blowout of shocking proportions.
No.6 Missouri Tigers 17 vs No.14 Nebraska Cornhuskers 31
Nebraska’s Roy Helu Jr ran for 307 yards the longest run being a 73 yard romp. Helu Jr also scored three of the Nebraska Cornhuskers four touchdowns in his one man show. The score was not as close as it looks. The Nebraska Cornhuskers stood up to the task of knocking another college football team from the ranks of the unbeaten.
More Teams Will Fall From Ranks of Unbeaten Next Weekend
Next week the Mountain West Conference eliminates another undefeated team when Utah takes on TCU. Both Mountain West teams are in the top ten rankings and they could be ranked fourth and fifth when they meet November sixth.
The Boise State Broncos will face their toughest test when they travel to play the Nevada Wolfpack and Colin Kaepernick Saturday night in the battle for supremacy of the WAC standings. Kaepernick is the wild card in this game that could give the Boise State Broncos issues. Look for this game to go down to the wire and it could possibly end Boise State’s hopes to go undefeated once again.
