The BCS standings for Week 11 offered little surprises in the rankings. As expected, the BCS standings Week 11 showed Oregon, Auburn, TCU and Boise State in control. Of course, Oregon and Auburn hold the rankings in their hands, as they just need to win out to drain all remaining suspense. Yet TCU is now creeping up on them, while Boise State is going in the opposite direction. As for the Week 11 BCS standings below the top 4, several one loss teams are getting in position for a move.
After Oregon and Auburn easily took care of business on Saturday, they were the obvious 1-2 in the rankings. However, the Ducks lost a bit of their lead, as they had a .9638 average, while the Tigers have a .9611 score.
Meanwhile, the BCS standings in Week 11 kept TCU at No. 3, although their average went up as well. They have a .9259, and increased their lead over Boise State, which is down to a .8662. Unless TCU loses, Boise State’s hopes to overtake their mid-major rival are all but gone.
The Broncos had hoped to stay at No. 3, and get in with either an Oregon or Auburn loss. Now, Boise State can only move up the rankings if two teams above them lose – though they must hope that a one-loss team doesn’t overtake them either.
While the four remaining unbeatens lead the BCS standings for Week 11, the rankings had one loss teams making a big jump. LSU is now at No. 5, but unless they win the SEC West – which won’t happen unless Auburn loses two games – their championship hopes may be diminished. Stanford is now all the way up to No. 6, but they can’t win the Pac-10 unless Oregon loses twice.
The biggest one-loss threats may be Wisconsin, Nebraska and Ohio State, since they have better shots at being conference champions. Of course, Wisconsin and Ohio State could cancel each other out, while Nebraska was very lucky to survive Iowa State this week. Oklahoma State now looks like a sleeper as well, after the Cowboys jumped into the top 10.
All of those teams need a lot of help at this point, but they may not get it. The leaders of the BCS standings in Week 11 are heavily favored this week, and will all be off next Saturday. Oregon takes on Cal, while Auburn hosts Georgia, and TCU faces off with San Diego State. All of these matchups could be trap games, however, and if just one of them loses, the chaos begins anew.
There is a clear cut order in the BCS standings now, but there are still four weeks left for the rankings to get bunched up again. For TCU, Boise State and the one-loss program, they must hope for nothing less.
