When you are looking for a truly exceptional holiday experience in Northern Minnesota then look no further then Bentleyville located in Bayfront Park in Duluth Minnesota. This holiday wonder of lights and entertainment offers a fantastic time for the young and old alike.
Bentleyville’s origins started in the yard of Nathan Bentley in 2001. Over the course of several years Mr. Bentley added more and more lights to create even more extravagant displays each holiday season. Very soon his home was referred to as the “House with all the lights in Esko”.
During 2003 the yard was soon filled to the brim with lights which lead to the decoration of the backyard. So the display quickly went from drive by to walkthrough. Santa soon found his way to Bentleyville to visit with the children on his own life sized sleigh. The display began to grow larger and larger requiring Nathan to need more assistance from his friends. A friend jokingly referred to the display as Bentleyville(a reference to Dr. Suess’s Whoville) and from then on out the name stuck. It was also during this time that live entertainment was added to the display.
In 2008 Nathan received a call from the mayor’s office in Duluth with an invitation to have the Bentleyville tour hosted at Bayfront Park. Mr. Bentley agreed to the one year trial invitation. The overwhelming excitement from having such a spectacular display of Christmas lights in downtown Duluth has drawn hundreds of volunteers and thousands or visitors each year. The attraction has gone through changes each year since to continue to attract visitors of all ages to Bentleyville each year.
This year an agreement was made to keep Bentleyville in Bayfront Park for the next three years. This amazing attraction is great fun for people of all ages and continues to draw visitors from all over the Duluth/Superior area as well as all over Minnesota and Wisconsin. There are many visitors that travel half way across the country to view the tour of lights.
