People have been practicing the art of body piercing for thousands of years now. What was once a ritualistic experience, has now become a fashion trend among today’s youth and Gen X er’s. People wear face and body piercings for many different reasons including religion and spiritual reasons, for the beauty or appearance, cultural reasons, and probably the most common these days, as a form of self expression.
In the early 20th century, piercing any part of your body was almost unheard of. Now people are piercing everything from eyebrows and noses, to lips, tongues, navels, nipples, and even the genitals. Piercing some of these areas comes along with some risks, but when done by a professional, these risks can be greatly minimized.
You want to find an experienced, professional piercing artist, that does the piercing in a clean, well-lit shop. When searching for a shop, don’t be afraid to ask questions like; how long have they been piercing, how and where they were trained, etc. Piercers that have been trained properly, will be happy to give you this information.
Be sure that the piercer wears gloves, and uses individually packaged jewelry and piercing tools. Don’t sacrifice your health because you didn’t want to be rude, or because that place was the closest place to your house.
Make sure that you feel comfortable in the shop, and with the person that is going to be piercing you. I recommend making an appointment, and arriving a little early, so you can see how the shop operates before it’s your turn. If you feel uncomfortable, leave and keep searching for the right place.
If you are in the Palm Springs area, these are the best shops in town for body piercing. All of these places have been highly recommended and have great references from their clients.
