Christmas traditions are being built each year by families; choosing and chopping the tree being high on the list. Southeast Missouri has several Christmas tree farms where you can go to choose the perfect tree for your home.
Choosing a tree at Meier Horse Shoe Pines in Jackson, MO is more like an event. Hop aboard a Belgian horse- drawn carriage and enjoy the ride through the pristine winter woods to choose your perfect tree. Go early in the season and choose your tree, they tag it and leave it to thrive until closer to Christmas. While you’re there, visit the Christmas shop and enjoy a cup of hot spiced cider. Commerce, MO is River Ridge Winery and Christmas Tree Farm. On the grounds of this picturesque vineyard, holiday lovers will find the Yule Log Cabin Christmas Shop. Choose from a wide array of decorations, adornments, candles, and more. Pick out a hearty Fir or Balsam Christmas tree or wreath and carry it off to decorate in your home. In Jefferson County, Meert Tree Farm has a vast selection of several tree varieties. Choose either a White Pine, Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, Frasier Fir, Colorado Spruce, or Serbian Spruce which is limited in quantity so get there early. They open the day after Thanksgiving and you can cut your own tree up until December 23rd. There is also a Christmas Store where you can choose wreaths, decorations and more for the holiday season. Also located in Jefferson County is the Christmas Tree Mountain. Come from 9am until dusk on any weekend beginning on the Friday after Thanksgiving and choose and cut your own White or Scotch Pine, Douglas or Fraser Fir; any size is just $22. To warm and sweeten the deal, everyone in your party will receive a free cup of hot chocolate and a candy cane. Take Interstate 55 to exit 162, OO/DD Highway. Beck’s Christmas Tree Farm is located just outside of Farmington, MO. Open on the weekends after Thanksgiving through Christmas, this tree farm has a wide variety of trees that are either pre-cut or cut-your own in a large selection of sizes. Visit the store on-site for decorations and Christmas goodies. Take Highway 67 South to Highway 221. Travel west on 221 to Doe Run. Make a right on Highway B and go approximately 2 miles.
