Perhaps you want to go to a restaurant with the entire family that isn’t a chain. Maybe it’s a nice quiet neighborhood place where they feature items for children on the menu. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a family restaurant on or by the beach? Thankfully these types of family restaurants do exist in the Tampa Bay area. You’ll learn about three family restaurants that seem almost too good to be true.
1.) Clear Sky Beachside Café – Clearwater Beach, Florida
If you want to take family from out of town who’s visiting, along with your own family, this would definitely be the family restaurant of all time to go to. Clear Sky Beachside Café is the number one rated restaurant in Clearwater Beach. In 2009 it was voted “Best Restaurant Anytime of Day!” from Tampa Bay Magazine. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Their seafood is by far the freshest anywhere on the beach. Besides serving seafood there is gourmet pizza, paninis, burgers, salads and tapas appetizers. There is even a featured Kids Dinner that consists either of chicken fingers, cheese quesadillas, burgers (minis) and penne pasta at $4.95 (for children 10 and under). The best part of all about this restaurant is its family friendly and pet friendly too. You will have a beautiful view of the beach. 490 Mandalay Avenue, Clearwater Beach, Florida (727) 442-3684.
2.) Potbellies Family Restaurant – Tampa, Florida
Located in South Tampa behind Britton Plaza is this cozy family restaurant that serves breakfast daily, lunch six days a week and dinner three days a week. Everything is homemade with prices ranging up to $7.50 for breakfast, $7.50 for lunch and $13.95 for dinner. You can make your own omelet for breakfast and dinner.
Potbellies Family Restaurant offers an enormous array of items on their menu. It would be best to check out their informative website. Monday thru Wednesday is breakfast and lunch only from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday thru Saturday is the same breakfast/lunch hours and dinner is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday is the day they only serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 3826 S. Himes Avenue, Tampa, Florida (813) 835-7363.
3.) Mamas Kitchen – Tampa, Florida
Once again here is another family restaurant nestled in a quiet neighborhood slightly away from the hustle and bustle off of South Dale Mabry. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. This restaurant is very close to my house, so I drive by there almost every day. It is always packed, especially for breakfast and lunch. I’ve had lunch there once and the food is absolutely delicious. Their portions are huge I had to take home the rest of my chicken parmigiana. Mamas Kitchen is very small and located in South Tampa, south of Gandy Boulevard. However, it is definitely worth taking the whole family there one day soon.
The only drawback about these locally owned family restaurants is they are located in very remote areas. It is challenging going to Clearwater Beach to find parking, especially for dining. If you don’t live in South Tampa these places may be a long drive for many in and around other parts of Tampa, Hillsborough County and Tampa Bay. However, some of them have been around for more than a decade. It’s always fun to eat at any restaurant that isn’t a chain.
