Austin is full of unique entertainment. This city offers live music on nearly every corner, exciting outdoor activities, and quality food and restaurants unlike anywhere else in the state. Austin even takes a new approach to movie theaters.
Austin’s Alamo Draft House offers a one of a kind movie viewing experience. While watching one of the newest flicks, or attending one of the Alamo’s famous events or sing-a-longs, you can indulge in a great meal. The menu is stuffed with appetizers like queso and fried pickles, and main courses from juicy burgers to perfect pizzas. The best part is, your viewing experience can even be accented with alcoholic beverages all while relaxing in a jeans and flip-flops environment. The draft house offers multiple locations all across the city, but the Ritz 6th street location is situated right in the heart of the town, and is surrounded with that classic Austin vibe.
If the Alamo’s laid back independent style isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you can step it up a notch and head over to the newly opened Gold Class Cinema at The Domain in north Austin. With ticket prices at $29 this is definitely a more refined entertainment choice. The Gold Class offers food and drinks during the movie, but the menu makes the Alamo’s look like glorified bar food. Each theater holds only 40 people, giving you a a homey and private feeling as you tuck yourself away in your oversized, cushy, reclining chair and immerse yourself in a great movie.
Being able to relax, eat dinner, and watch a movie all in one place, is fantastic, but for Austin’s most amazing movie watching experience, you have to see a movie at the Bob Bullock Museum’s IMAX. With a wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling screen, and a state of the art digital surround sound system, you might as well be part of the movie itself. The IMAX is equipped for 2D and 3D movies, and always offers the biggest hits. You can also usually find a great History flick produced specifically for the Bob Bullock’s IMAX. Sit back, relax, and let the movie unfold around you.
If you’re looking to skip the live music, and the hustle and bustle of the bar scene for a night, bury yourself in one of these great movie theaters, and experience Austin at is finest.
