Don’t let the cold put a damper on your heated love life! Winter dates can be really fun if you take the time to creatively plan them. Here are my picks for top dates you can do in the cold months.
Picnics are fun and inexpensive and going on a date during cold weather and bringing some hot chocolate is extra fun and bonding. Bundle up in blankets and try to find a park or spot where you can make a fire. Be sure to bring wine and a cooked meal (made to go of course). It’s understated and classy fun.
This is a challenging but fun sport. I tried it for the first time on a double date and it was a blast! I fell a lot but it ended up being fun. It’s also a great encouragement to keep trying if you know someone is watching you that you care about or wish to impress! If it’s your first time, I recommend wearing padded underpants because it hurts to fall on your tailbone. It may not sound sexy or romantic, but it is attractive if you can keep boarding without breaking your back – even if you keep falling and getting up. You can do it!
Another great winter date, ice skating can be wonderful to try with someone you’re getting close to. Be sure you get the best fit for your skate rentals and wear really warm clothing. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before or haven’t in a long time; falling can add some humor to the evening. I always make a joke of it and call it ‘butt skating’.
The most magical place is even better during the holidays because everyone is in their winter/holiday attire. You can even see it snow on Main Street. This is a super romantic and fun winter date. I know a couple who got engaged there during winter when the snow started. So cute! Also, the Haunted Mansion is all decked out fabulously. I consider it the best time of year for a Disney fan!
Find a fun, local coffee shop (not one you see every 3 blocks but something unique) and plan a night together. Try to find one with live music, poetry readings or an otherwise laid-back environment. There’s one not too far from where I live that has a super artsy interior, including comfy, trendy couches covered with pillows. They have movie nights once a week and the best desserts. If you find an environment unique with good coffee, tea or treats plan a romantic evening in! It’s inexpensive but very romantic and relaxing to listen to music, drink hot beverages and chat.
Game Night – great to invite other couples!
Have one other couple or more over and have a game night. Ask anyone who’s coming to bring a bottle of wine, beers or hors d’oeuvres to share. Play some music, break out some board games such as Monopoly, Scrabble or Pictionary and have a blast! You can also play Wii (if you have enough controllers) or other video games you all would enjoy. Get creative and have fun!
Take the Train
If you usually travel by car, taking a train somewhere can be a very fun experience, especially if you take a dining car. It’s worth it to spend a little extra for a nice trip with food and drink service included. Try to plan this as your transportation to an event such as a play, circus performance or comedy show. If it snows where your live, this will be a scenic, romantic little trip as well.
Gift Shopping for a Cause
Find a local organization that gives to children in need during the holidays. Go out shopping and buy some toys or other needed items for your recipient. Be sure to get a card with a warm greeting, or you can make your own (especially fun). Choose to sign or make it anonymous. To finish it off, wrap it together. It’s fun to do and feels extremely rewarding to make a less fortunate child’s holiday special. Plus, going to a toy store is a walk down memory lane and fun to do with someone else!
The cold months can be the best time to build warm memories! Take advantage of the opportunities that are around you for romantic dates and savor the chilly weather – it makes for great cuddle time!
