The economy is tough. People are being careful of what they are purchasing. Yet, companies are being sneaky. They are tacking on outrageous fees on many products and services we are purchasing without us being aware. What are some of these fees?
Hotel Resort Fees
Some hotels and resorts are charging guests a pool towel fee
Early termination fees on cell phone plans
Many cell phone companies will charge you an early termination fee if you opt out of your contract before it is completed. This includes ATT and Verizon. This charge can amount to as much as $300.
Satellite TV Service, Early Termination Fees
If you opt out of your contract before it is completed, you are required to pay a termination fee. Many satellite companies will also extend your contract if you purchase or replace any equipment during your contract period. This may include both major satellite dealers, Dish and DirecTV.
Inactive Bank Charges
If you allow any accounts, especially children’s accounts to become inactive, the bank may charge you a fee. This fee could be as much as $10 per month.
Fees for tickets
TicketMaster is a well known site for getting tickets for all major events. Yet, they have begun charging customers a printing fee of $2.50 and this is even when a customer is using his/her own computer to do the printing.
The airline industry is becoming well known for their outrageous fees. This can include:
• Seat reservations
• Check bag fees
• Carry on bag fees
Of course, there is one sure way we can catch these fees and services before we are stuck into a plan we can’t get out of paying. That way is to read all the fine print of all documents and all contracts before signing. Yes, reading all these papers and asking all those important questions can take up our time. Yet, it in the end it may save us a lot of money. If you read something you don’t like or don’t understand, opt out of the service right on the spot and refuse to take ownership of the product. Do not fear of being impolite. Remember it is your money.
