Although the Birmingham Groves Falcons enjoyed a very strong season overall, the boys water polo team was undoubtedly disappointed by its fifth-place medal in the state championship tournament last week. The tournament, which took place in Zeeland from November 12 to November 13, took a surprising turn when sixth-place Jenison scored an upset victory over Groves, who was ranked second going into the event. Their fifth-place ranking matches last year’s final results, dashing the team’s hopes of scoring its first state championship victory since 1994. Their final record stands at 30-8, though, which is very strong. The local community remains proud of the Falcons and will surely cheer the team on to victory next season.
