Volunteering in the City of Birmingham, Michigan is a great way to get out and meet new people and you will always get the satisfaction of knowing that you did something “good” today. Here are some organizations that need your help.
The Allen House and John West Hunter House are both historical museums and they are always in need of volunteers. They need help with everything from administrative duties to someone to help prepare the exhibits.
The Birmingham Police Auxiliary is always in need of people to help assist police at special events and they will provide you with plenty of free training.
Parade volunteers are needed to help plan and prepare the Celebrate Birmingham Parade and Party held in May of 2011. They also need help to carry banners in the parade so you could actually be in it.
The farmers market is also in need of help and you only have to be 14 years old so it could be a fun day with the kids if they are old enough; it would be spending quality family time together and providing a community service at the same time. They do have a kid’s craft area so your kids could help other kids with fun projects while teaching your kids a valuable lesson about giving back to the community and helping others.
Every Wednesday during the summer Birmingham is host to the In the Park Concert and they are looking for people who can commit on a weekly basis. This is a lively event and a great way to meet your neighbors.
Volunteering can help build your self esteem because there is satisfaction in a job well done and these organizations, although not as needy as a homeless shelter, still need people to help support them.
