Birmingham firm SKBK Sotheby’s International Realty finds itself at the heart of the controversial mini-boom created by Michigan’s film incentives. The company has begun to specialize in finding temporary homes for Hollywood stars and crew, so much so that they joke about renaming themselves “realtor to the stars.”
Like many businesses, SKBK would argue for keeping the tax incentives that are in danger of repeal should Snyder win the gubernatorial race next week. Others would argue that the business from Hollywood doesn’t make enough for local businesses or even the state itself. Those that choose to specialize in finding temporary homes for Hollywood types admit they don’t make much money, and there are concerns about what to do if the tax credits don’t stick around.
