Birmingham Public Schools district is comprised of 13 schools, including a high school and a variety of elementary and middle schools. In 2009 Birmingham Public Schools initiated school wellness committees designed to provide healthy meal choices for the students. This initiative directed by the Birmingham school wellness committees continues to encourage a healthy school and home lifestyle for the students.
The school-based wellness committees are located in nine schools in the Birmingham Public School District, including Harlan Elementary, Quarton Elementary, Pierce Elementary and more. Likewise, these committees serve the purpose of providing nutritional knowledge and mental health awareness.
