Bishop Eddie L. Long the pastor of a Baptist mega church in Georgia has allegations of sexual misconduct from two young men. Bishop long is the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia; it is one of the largest churches in the country. The two young men said that Bishop Eddie L. Long repeatedly coerced them into having sex.
Lawsuits filed in DeKalb County say Bishop Long used the position of spiritual counselor to take the young men on trips and perform sexual acts on the two young boys. A suit filed by Maurice Robinson states, “Defendant Long has a pattern and practice of singling out a select group of young male church members and using his authority as a bishop over them to ultimately bring them to a point of engaging in a sexual relationship.”
Bishop Eddie L. Long’s lawyer Craig Gillen rejects these accusations stating, “We find it unfortunate that these two young men have taken these actions. We are reviewing the complaint and will respond accordingly.”
When you hear about any pastor of any church having sexual relationships with young people in the church, it makes your skin crawl. However, Pastor Eddie L. Long is even worse because of the size of his congregation and his supposed values.
Bishop Eddie L. Long is an outspoken critic of homosexuality and called one of the most virulently homophobic black leaders in religiously based anti-gay movements by, Southern Poverty Law Center. Bishop Long is also the author of “What a man wants, what a woman needs, and the secret to a successful fulfilling relationships.”
With knowing all this about Bishop Long and what he claims to stand for leaves us to think, “What are our Pastors becoming?” If the allegations from the two young stating that Bishop long coerced them into sexual acts are true, he should be punished fully of the law.
