CHICAGO – With former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich finally convicted on at least one of 24 charges against him in the recent corruption trial in Chicago, many TV viewers were hoping we’d soon be seeing an end to his appearances on everything from reality TV shows to talk shows and everything in between. Unfortunately, this may not be the case. In fact Rod Blagojevich was back doing interviews already in a big way and appeared on NBC’s Today show on Friday, just days after the verdict in the trial was announced.
Though Blagojevich awaits sentencing and was convicted of lying to federal prosecutors, the details of how the sentencing will work remain to be seen. Prosecutors may elect to postpone sentencing until a retrial on the remaining 23 charges is concluded. This could give Blago plenty of opportunities to go on TV and further subject the world to his lies and bad hair for months to come!
Though public opinion is mixed as to whether a retrial should go forward, federal prosecutors definitely plan to proceed. Although Judge James Zagel has given prosecutors until September 7th, to determine if they will retry the case the prosecution is eager to get started with a retrial. Blagojevich will return to court on Thursday August 26 regarding the retrial. U. S. Assistant Attorney Reid Schar is quoted as saying “It is absolutely our intent to retry this case” and when asked about the prosecution’s intentions he added “We could be here tomorrow.”
There is plenty of cause for the Blagojevich drama to continue. Apparently 11 out of 12 jurors were in agreement on the majority of the other 23 charges against Blagojevich.. Although the holdout juror in the case has yet to speak out publicly, Fox News reports that “the lone juror who would not agree to convict is likely to be Jo Ann Chiakulas of Willowbrook , after a second-hand acquaintance said that she has been saying since early July that she would find Blagojevich not guilty.” Meanwhile crowds of Blagojevich’s neighbors and supporters have been gathering outside of the former governor’s home actually celebrating the outcome of the recent trail.
To further add to the drama, various sources are now reporting that the holdout juror in the case is a retired state of Illinois public health employee who formerly worked for the Chicago Urban League. Meanwhile Blago is thanking God for his good fortune in the case. When asked On the Today Show about the the lone juror who would not vote to convict him, he said ‘Praise God.’ and ” I certainly thank her for her good judgment .”
Despite having just been convicted of a felony Rod Blagojevich is celebrating. Vowing to appeal what he is calling a “nebulous charge from five years ago.” It’s easy to see how he could actually believe the nonsense he is spewing. Since he was convicted of was lying, and for Blago lying is his normal behavior, it figures that he may actually be unable to understand how he’s done anything wrong! Unforturnately for those of us who are now subjected to having to see his hideous hair and sneering face on TV again all this past week with no end in sight, we can only hope he is sentenced to a long jail term, and the sooner the better.
