Rumors about Blue Marble closing the flagship store in Boerum hill have been circulating for months, but as of this last Sunday, October 24th, Blue Marble at 420 Atlantic Ave is officially and totally closed.
Brownstoner announced the closing party October 20th, which was to have included appearances by some celebrities including actor Billy Crudup.
This is only half of the story however.
In the other half, the heartwarming half of this story, Alexis from Blue Marble reports on Brownstoner that the Rwanda shop, called Sweet Dreams, has been open for several months now.
Sweet Dreams is “the country’s first ever ice cream shop” and is a success that “has outpaced our most optimistic expectations.”
Despite other readers wondering about the “sustainability” of ice cream in Africa or the economic wisdom of such an Endeavour or even the stability of infrastructure being able to support an ice cream shop, we think this is quite the accomplishment.
So while Boerum Hill folks will now have to walk a bit further to satisfy their ice cream cravings, Blue Marble has made a daring achievement that we hope and fully expect to make a real, lasting, and significant difference in a community that could really, really use it.
Way to go guys!
