Bob Evans Farms (BEF), announced today that it is shutting down its fresh sausage production line at its plant in Gallia County. That means that, effective immediately, 57 employees of the plant located on Green Valley Drive in Bidwell no longer have jobs.
Bob Evans Farm officials cited the poor economy in general and the sagging U.S. pork industry specifically as the reasons for closing the fresh sausage line in Gallia County. Bidwell’s production volume will be shifted to the company’s other fresh production plants in Xenia, Ohio, Hillsdale, Mich., and Richardson, Texas. It’s reported the Bidwell plant will continue to produce pre-cooked sausage links and patties.
“This was a very difficult decision made for the long-term health of the organization,” says President of Food Products Mike Townsley.
“Bob Evans Farms has roots in Gallia County and the employees at the Bidwell plant have been loyal and hard working. We appreciate everything they have done through the years to build the brand,” says Townsley.
