Some thoughts from last night’s episode:
I’m sure there will be people out there who will now have problems eating chocolate after the opening scene (which consisted of them finding a decomposed body inside a giant candy bar). I wasn’t one of them. However, I ended up losing my appetite for the Hershey Bar I was eating (I was trying to gross out my wife) when Hodgins talked about all the things (spider legs, rodent hairs) allows, in small quantities, in chocolate. I thought about going online and trying to confirm that as fact but figured it’s best not to know.
I loved the mystery around the victim in this one and how she appeared to be someone who liked to change careers only to find out she only had one job; as a corporate spy. It was actually pretty clever and I loved the subtle reference to Harriet the Spy.
I do, however, have to wonder how it was so easy for her to infiltrate businesses using fake resumes. Don’t companies, especially successful ones, usually run some sort of background check? At very least, you think they would have made some calls to confirm previous employment, education, etc.
On the subject of corporate espionage, I thought it was a bit funny that Wayne Knight’s character was the victim of it in this episode considering he played a corporate spy in the movie Jurassic Park.
While I did like the corporate espionage twist, I do think the actual murder mystery was a bit too easy to solve; at least if you are someone who watches the show enough to know it is almost always a character who is introduced early and remains in the background for the remainder of the episode. I was able to point out the killer about 15 minutes into this one.
Glad to hear Booth’s girlfriend Hannah didn’t just disappear; as I feared a bit last week when she wasn’t even mentioned. But, considering she has now had zero air time in two weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the relationship end off camera.
So, am I the only one who thinks Brennan has been a bit on the “perky” side lately? It’s a bit confusing actually considering the earlier episodes made it look like she was both jealous and even a little depressed over Booth’s relationship with Hannah. I wonder if the writers are keeping some sort of secret from us; like she has someone in her life too.
I loved the ending to this episode; the one where Hodgins invites everyone out so he can reveal Angela’s pregnancy, only to find out everyone already knows. What did he expect? He works with a bunch of geniuses. It was only a matter of time before they figured it out.
