Does your family go through a lot of bottled drinks that feature the metal caps? Beer, root beer and some other bottled drinks have a metal cap that has to be removed with a bottle opener. These caps work great to create assorted messages on your refrigerator. With them you can wish visitors a happy holiday, spell out a love message to your kids or otherwise create words and sentences.
Take care when opening the bottled drinks so that you don’t damage the cap. It’s helpful to use the bottle opener to barely pull the cap up in one area, turn the bottle, do this again, and again. Opening it easily, all the way around rather than all at once, can help keep the lid intact. After you’ve saved up quite a few you can then begin turning them into magnets that can be used to spell out all sorts of messages on the refrigerator.
A button magnet is perfect for turning the bottle caps into messages. Simply use a dot of glue on the underside of the cap to hold the magnet in place. Before attaching the magnet lay the caps out on a newspaper and spray paint them the color you want. After they’re dry add a magnet to each one.
You can use paint markers to draw a letter onto each bottle cap or you can use stickers. Another option is to cut letters from newspaper or magazines and glue them to the caps. For best results, when it comes to spelling out words, make all the caps look basically the same. Choose a neutral color, like white, and the letters will suit any occasion.
Make bottle cap magnets that feature all the vowels – several of each – as well as extras of common letters like “s”, “r”, “t” and “n”. Two or three of the other letters should be plenty. Also make a bottle cap that features a question mark, an exclamation point and even a comma.
On any given day you can easily spell out a message on the refrigerator. Spell out “Happy Holidays”, “Boo”, “Happy Easter”, “Happy Birthday” or any other phrase. Make them for yourself or make them for the child in your family. The bottle cap magnets are perfect for any special occasion or just a regular day!
