Brandon Spikes video clips are under NFL investigation. The Brandon Spikes video is reportedly another Internet sex tape, yet the Brandon Spikes video is actually just par for the course for Chatroulette. When Chatroulette debuted, everyone made jokes about how there was so much nudity in the chats. In that vein, the Patriots’ rookie linebacker has had his own Chatroulette session spread through the Internet. As such, the video has become the latest Internet cautionary tale.
The NFL has warned players about using Twitter and other social networks in the past. But now, Chatroulette has come under their attention, after one of their players was caught performing sex acts on it. According to Deadspin, someone has two clips of it, and is trying to sell them for $1,500.
The first Brandon Spikes video allegedly has the Patriots’ rookie receiving oral sex from a woman. In a second clip, he is reported to be masturbating while another woman watches. Although there was early skepticism, since the report came from Deadspin, Spikes’ agent appeared to confirm it was him.
Terry Watson said that the Brandon Spikes video clips were taken before the Florida linebacker was drafted. In spite of the timing, he is still subject to the NFL’s personal conduct policy. According to ESPN, league spokesman Greg Aiello stated that the NFL is “looking into it.”
This ordeal may not cost Spikes much, and would likely be a bump in the road down the line. He has started each of the Patriots’ preseason games thus far, establishing himself as a rookie to watch this year. Still, although the Brandon Spikes video might not impact him on the field, he has become the latest athlete to achieve Internet infamy.
The big difference this time is that Chatroulette was the Internet tool used. Although the site is supposed to be used for round-table webcam chats, it has become better-known for nudity and sexual exploits. Now that it has gotten an NFL player in trouble, Chatroulette’s NC-17 reputation is further solidified.
YouTube and Twitter are most often used to get people and stars in trouble, but the Brandon Spikes video is the first scandal for Chatroulette’s record. Yet the person who allegedly has the clips was unable to sell them to Deadspin, as even they weren’t interested in the action. Still, he claimed he was about to sell them for $1,500.
It seems the Brandon Spikes video has a relatively low level of interest, at least by Internet sex tape standards. Still, the NFL’s level of interest may be filling the gap.
