Everybody has a favorite special-occasion restaurant. My family’s is in Bolingbrook, IL; when we recently had a birthday in our family the obvious choice was Branmor’s. Bolingbrook, IL, is a southwestern suburb of Chicago. Branmor’s American Grill is at 300 S. Veterans’ Parkway; it has great food and a terrific atmosphere. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The most expensive house specialty dinner is their Australian lamb chops at $31.00 plus $3.00 for a cup of soup and salad. The most expensive steak is a 20 ounce ribeye steak at $36.00 plus $3.00 for soup and salad or a baked potato with chopped bacon and chives. Adding button mushrooms onions to your steak in an additional $2.00. In addition to steaks and lamb, the dinner menu has appetizers, salads, sandwiches, seafood, chicken and pasta. The sandwiches are there least expensive dinner fare; averaging $15.00. However, these also express the originality of the entire menu. The meals are not inexpensive; a dinner will probably cost about $30.00 per person. Everything is worth the price.
Branmor’s also serves lunch Monday through Friday. Their lunch menu includes the pasta dishes and appetizers, offered at dinner. These pasta dishes include beef, seafood and chicken, and the ultimate macaroni and cheese. There is a mix-and-match of entrees and salads.
The restaurant has a comfortable and roomy, and the décor is not stuffy. This may sound like the usual American grill, but its quality and imaginative menu puts it well above its competition. For instance, their “cheeseburger” is the Bacon Jam Steakburger; it is char-broiled ground beef tenderloin with white cheddar cheese, bacon jam, an over-easy egg, roasted garlic aioli on golden brioche. The food is terrific. The recipes are truly creative. Every meal is so excellent it’s hard to recommend one dish over another. With one exception, they have my favorite soup, the peppercorn/crab soup. It is incomparable and I am always tempted to order a large quantity of this and make it my meal.
