I don’t like watching football. I don’t even know the rules or the point of the game. But I love chips and dips, chicken wings and a good produced Half Time Show. To me The Super Bowl is all about the commercials, (I need to be able to talk with peeps the following day) friends and Music. It was just announced that The Black Eyed Peas will be performing at the Half Time Show at the Cowboy Station on Feb 6.
In my opinion a stadium should have Rock Music. I am not sure if the Black Eyed Peas fit the bill here. But I am thrilled that a current Band like the Black Eyed Peas will be on the biggest Television Event in 2011. Congratulations!
I actually don’t mind jamming to: “I’ve got a feeling”.
Janet and Michael Jackson changed the course of the Super Bowl Half Time Show in different ways, Michael to the better and Janet to the worst. After Michael Jackson sensational ratings, Half Time Show producers tried to get the top artists ever year. Then Janet Jackson came along and her “wardrobe malfunctioned.” (Cough, cough) A zesty fine of $550 000 caused many live shows to delay their broadcasts for at least five seconds and safe performers were hired.
By the way I must have looked away that moment, because I didn’t see it until later, after news reports televised the incident over and over again and I still would have needed a microscope to see the nipple.
Starting with the III Super Bowl the Half Time Show was under a certain theme. There were cheesy themes like “Winter Magic” with Brian Boitano (Skater) and World of Children Dream’s with “Tops in Blues” (various Air Force Bands). The most melancholic one was ‘The Tribute to 9/11 victims” in 2002 with U2. They sounded fabulous.
Michael Jackson’s theme was “Heal the world” and Timberlake/ Janet Jackson performed under the theme “Rock the Vote” which ended the themes in 2004.
After that veterans like Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and The Who performed without a theme..
While I loved humming with the Veterans of Rock Music and debating whether Prince’s “shadow malfunction” was intentionally or not I missed the current chart music.
This will all change with The Black Eyed Peas performing this year at the Super Bowl. Their new album: “The Beginning” is coming out on Tuesday. Let’s just hope that nothing “malfunctions” so we can begin to have current bands again.
