One of the benefits of living in Hampton Roads is there is rarely a shortage of things to do. Whether you are going to Norfolk to watch the Admirals or the Tides, going up to Hampton to watch a monster truck rally at the Hampton Coliseum, or just going down to Amphitheater in Virginia Beach to catch a concert, there is always something going on. New Year’s Eve is no exception and here are a few pointers to help you start out your new year in style.
1. “80s Rewind on the River,” at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in Norfolk: Rock in the New Year with the DJs from 94.9 The New Point from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres by Omar’s Carriage House and wet your whistle at the cash bar. There will be prizes given out for the best costume, hair, and lip sync to a song from the 80’s as well as complimentary souvenir glasses with your choice of champagne or sparkling cider to toast in the New Year. Tickets are only $75 per person. For more information go to www.nauticus.org.
2. Fifth Annual New Year’s Eve Comedy Explosion at the Hampton Coliseum: What better way to welcome the New Year than with laughter? The Hampton Coliseum is hosting the explosive urban comedic stylings of Rickey Smiley, Lavell Crawford, Jay Lamont, Melanie Comarcho, and Mike ‘Redbone’ Aclott. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets for this dynamite show are $39.50. Military discounts available. For more information go to www.hampton.gov.
3. First Night Williamsburg: Bring the whole family to celebrate the coming of the New Year in historic Williamsburg! This non-alcoholic event has fun for all ages with more than 40 different acts, including singers, dancers, magicians puppet shows, clowns, bands and much, much more. Performances will run until around 11:45 p.m. and then it’s time to make your way to Zable Stadium for the midnight fireworks extravaganza! Tickets are $13 through Dec. 30th, and $15 on New Year’s Eve. Children under 5 are free. Event map and locations, as well as where tickets are available are at www.firstnightwilliamsburg.org.
4. New Year’s Eve Gala at the Doubletree Hotel in Virginia Beach: Excellent for those who are wanting to ring in the New Year with that special someone.
