Way back when, stars were stars and celebrity meant that you had to earn the title. Today, in order to reach “celebrity” status, all you need to do is give birth to a litter of babies, have a reality show or in the case of Bristol Palin, become famous for having a child out of wedlock while your mother is the Republican candidate for the Vice Presidency of the United States.
Dancing with the Stars chose Bristol Palin only to get ratings for the curiousity factor. Sarah Palin supporters will tune in just to root on her daughter. Other than that, does anyone really care? Like other celebrity competitions, after a while, the whole idea gets stale.
According to reports, Kate Gosselin has been giving Bristol “dancing tips”. If that is true, Bristol’s dancing days are numbered. Kate Gosselin, another alleged “celebrity” was perhaps one of the most horrendous dancers that show has ever seen.
Dancing with the Stars used to be fun. Former television stars, professional athletes and singers are celebrities. Watching these has-been celebrities try to learn dances and perform live was entertaining, then it got ridiculous with its choices of celebrities. It was bad enough when they got Buzz Aldrin to dance. Cloris Leachman made a joke out of the whole experience but at least she was entertaining.
The fact that Bristol Palin even accepted the offer to be on this show is so hypocritical. She allegedly broke off her engagement with her baby daddy Levi Johnson because he was “media obsessed”. Going on Dancing with the Stars doesn’t make you media obsessed?
Maybe she just needs to earn money to support her baby. Some might say that she is just being smart to cash in on an offer to learn how to dance and make money at the same time.
It is just the beginning of the end for Dancing with the Stars. Aside from having the title of “most famous unwed mother”, what has Bristol Palin done to become a celebrity?
