Bristol Palin’s appearance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ continues to be a polarizing primetime event as fans of the show debate over whether or not she should really be considered a “star” and if it’s fair that she’s made it this far. But as Bristol Palin has progressed to the finals, her appearance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ seems to be inspiring worse actions than DWTS fans making derogatory online comments about her. In fact, the mere sight of Bristol Palin on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ had one man reacting in a very violent fashion. Meanwhile, ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ has also led to some ugly fighting online, as a Facebook flame war led to Willow Palin resorting to using gay slurs. So what’s the story behind all this reality show madness?
According to TMZ, Sarah Palin’s 16-year-old daughter Willow, who recently stepped into the reality show spotlight herself on ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’, responded to a comment on her Facebook wall with derogatory gay slurs. A boy who went to school with Bristol and Willow had posted a status update stating that “Sarah Palin’s Alaska is failing so hard right now”, and Willow responded by calling the boy “gay” and “disgusting”, making sure to point out that “My sister had a kid and is still hot”.
Willow then proceeded to call him the f-word, and sister Bristol also eventually stepped in. Fortunately, her way of degrading other commenters was a little more clever and less offensive; she insulted one person by threatening that he would “be as successful as her baby daddy”. So what effect will Willow Palin’s gay slurs have on Sarah Palin’s image? Will she get called out for not raising her children better? Or will Willow Palin’s gay slurs and the attention they’ve generated simply garner more interest in the teen and her presence on ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’? Sadly, the latter seems most likely, and Willow Palin probably won’t get much of a talking to about the incident, seeing as how she was defending her family while using the gay slur (plus anything she does that’s newsworthy will likely bode well for the show).
But the use of gay slurs isn’t the only ugliness Palin reality shows are inspiring. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Bristol Palin’s presence on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ might have driven one man to madness. A 66-year-old man reportedly became extremely upset about the daughter of a political figure being on the show, especially when he didn’t believe she was a good dancer. So he fired a shotgun at his television before turning it on his wife.
After a 15 hour standoff with police, he finally surrendered, and, thankfully, no one was injured. Of course it wasn’t simply Bristol Palin’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ presence that upset him; he was apparently under a lot of financial stress; suffering from a mental health problem; and had been drinking.
So what other wackiness with the Palin presence on reality TV inspire? Well, Bristol Palin and The Situation have teamed up for a PSA on teen pregnancy, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see where the Palin family’s popularity takes them next (and if the next stop is the White House, the wackiness that results could far exceed anything you’ll see on reality TV).
