“Ya got trouble, my friend, right here, I say, trouble right here in River City.”
Seventy-six trombones may sound the alert. Meredith Willson’s classic Broadway musical , The Music Man, is marching into the Marriott Theatre in Northern Illinois.
The Music Man begins November 3, 2010, and runs through January 9, 2011. Performances include matinees and evening shows on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Thursday and Friday evening shows.
What is The Music Man?
Based on a book by Meredith Willson, The Music Man is the rollicking story of a small town youth band, led by an itinerant con man, Harold Hill. Arriving in River City, Iowa, with his grand scheme, the crafty bandmaster tries to pull together the band, although his own musical background is limited.
Of course, The Music Man includes a love interest, as star Harold Hill is smitten with Marian Paroo, the town’s librarian. The outcome offers an intriguing human interest story, carried along by such familiar musical numbers as “Gary, Indiana,” “Pickalittle – Talk-a-Little,” “Seventy-six Trombones,” “Till There Was You,” “Trouble in River City” and “Wells Fargo Wagon.”
