When you’re looking for some good hard-core, cutting-edge, hard-rocking, heavy metal in Brooklyn, Clinton Hill might not be your first choice. In considering the venue, the Brooklyn Masonic Temple almost definitely wouldn’t be even on your radar. But the Freemasons who are a part of the Brooklyn Masonic Temple have partnered with the New York City booking agent boomBOOM Presents to bring the “Masonic Boom” series of shows to the temple, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.
Some people have considered Freemasonry to be something of a cult itself, a perfect fit for prog-rock death metal in some mind’s eye. According to Terrance Nichols, “the man who oversees the (Brooklyn Masonic Temple’s) mixed-use functions,” that’s just not true.
“Masonry is an organization of brotherhood that turns good men into better men,” he said to the Brooklyn Eagle when asked “about the rumored network of Masonic influence.”
The Brooklyn Masonic Temple is located at the corner of Clermont and Lafayette and had its cornerstone laid in 1907. The acoustics of the space are marvelous and boomBOOM Presents curious interest in the function of the building and the brother’s independent desire to “open the space to public bookings,” was synergy.
The as yet unwritten rest appears to be all but coming up roses.
