This episode is centered on Sarah Rachel (Griffiths) turning 40. But she isn’t turning 40. She has been lying about her age this whole time. All she asks is that her family go along with the charade. In a moment of bad judgment, Kitty (Calista Flockhart) takes on a new identity as Leslie Culpepper, the owner of the house she is renting. This decision comes when the plumber, Jack, reveals that he hates the city folks that come to Ojai to find themselves. Especially the politicians.
Nora (Sally Field), in another moment of bad judgment, considers plastic surgery. Kevin is not invited to the consultation of Nora and Sarah, and he heads up to Ojai instead. While there, he goes along with Kitty’s new identity and arranges a date between her and Jack, and decides that “Leslie” will make a soufflé. Tragically, the soufflé collapses. This prompts Kitty to come clean about her real identity. Jack leaves, but shows up later with a pizza.
Nora arrives at work, and realizes that her recent self esteem issues stem from her verbally abusive female boss. She decides that she has had enough and quits.
