‘Call Mom’ Season 5 | Episode 5 | Aired 10/24/10
Back to the second episode of this season where a radio producer spoke with Nora (Sally Field), after she was giving the family her two-cents, about her potential to do a show. This episode is the result of that encounter. Nora is up for the host role in “Dear Mom”. But, she has to compete against Dr. Alexandra Kirby (Debra Monk) who is an author, PH.D, and seems to have thousands of fans calling in. Obviously Nora is intimidated. She is after all “just a housewife”. (Later she will learn, just how valuable being “just a housewife” can be). Kevin shows up to the radio station for moral support.

After a rocky start, Kevin (Matthew Rhys) decides to call in and ask about Nora’s specialty. Cooking. After questioning a pie, Dr. Alex asks if this is an “apology pie”. She then manages to draw out more relationship information from Kevin, and gives advice as Nora sits and watches on, helpless.
Justin (Dave Annable) takes a trip to Kitty’s (Calista Flockhart) Ojai retreat, where he walks in on a session of heavy kissing between her and Jack. After speaking with Jack, Justin realizes that Jack is nowhere near Kitty’s type and decides that Kitty is better off with someone who isn’t her type right now. He leaves and gives them their privacy to return to the heavy petting. On the way home, he approaches a pretty waitress, who ends up asking him on a date. He goes and this date gives hope that there is a light at the end of Justin’s love life tunnel.
After Justin left Ojai, Kitty and Jack moved on to the sex part of the make out session. Kitty freaks out and when things get too intimate. Wanting Nora’s advice, she calls into the radio. Nora shines with this call.
She manages to give advice to not only Kitty, but since it was live on the radio, both Kevin and Justin get this advice as well. Justin realizes that dating again is okay. Kitty realizes that grieving is okay.
Then Jack shows up at Nora’s house, after the revelation of advice. He tells Kitty that he used to be an investment banker and they aren’t as different as one thought.
Dr. Alex ends up revealing to Nora that she is estranged from her kids, and in a full circle of events, takes advice from Nora. Nora gets the job.
Meanwhile, in a case of misunderstanding, Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) thinks Luc is cheating on her. She barges into a pool cabana, where Luc is…having a business meeting. She returns home and sits in Luc’s old painting studio. He comes home and they discuss his lost passion for painting. He reveals that he only stopped painting so he could model and be the type of man Sarah would want to marry. He then shows her a ring that he bought with his first paycheck. He asks Sarah, if he can be the man (a painter, not a model) that he once was, would she marry him. She accepts.
After Nora’s advice, Kevin returns home and tells Scotty (Luke Macfarlane) that he is ready to adopt. Something is obviously wrong with Scotty. He then reveals that he cheated on Kevin a while back.
