On October 2nd , 2010, Buchanan, VA will hold its 16th Annual Mountain Magic in Fall: Bluegrass, Antiques & Crafts Festival from 10 AM to 5 PM along the town’s Main Street.
This event was voted one of the “Top Three Community Events” by readers of the Roanoke Times Botetourt View! It sells itself as both the county’s oldest running Bluegrass event as well as a means to experience “small town America.”
As a community, Buchanan hardly needs an excuse to throw a party on any given weekend, much less one designated as their official autumn festival. Come prepared with comfortable walking shoes, a sweater and sunscreen as either might be necessary.
While bluegrass musicians play from Center Stage, visitors with other interests can browse the many “traditional and contemporary craft booths and antique vendors” that line the town’s Main Street. Unique and artisan merchandise from over 100 different vendors includes hand woven baskets, handmade soaps, mouth-blown glass, hand-stitched clothing, hand-made pottery, quilts, bedding accessories, hand-crafted wooden items, wooden furniture, hand-crafted jewelry, stuffed animals, children’s toys.
Antique dealers sell both furniture and accessories include “Empire pieces, Victorian pieces, Art Deco pieces, farm tables, woven coverlets, Watt bowls, girandoles and silver.”
Also available for your educational edification are interpretative history displays.
Local business and eateries are also featured and welcome visitors with everything from burgers and fries to hearty Italian to homemade German dishes.
Also lining Main Street are dozens of lovingly and refurbished antique cars and tractors displayed and sponsored by local and regional auto clubs.
Both pets and children are welcome, according to a Virginia Events website, so leash the one that roams the most and come on down to Main Street Botetourt to explore the offerings. The event is free to all visitors.
