How many times have you checked out the bumper sticker on a passing vehicle?
When you see a bumper sticker what’s the first thing you feel? Are you angry, tearful or joyous? Do you feel a sense of togetherness?
Togetherness is an important side of bumper stickers. There are many sides to bumper stickers, which are meant to arouse emotions and peak interest. A bumper sticker can consist of a funny side, serious side, political side, sport side, college side, inquisitive side, nature side and an advertising side for starters. But bumper stickers are more than playful and serious they make statements about what and whom you support.
In politics, if a politician has your political support, backing and votes a bumper sticker supporting your view and preferred candidate may be a number among the masses but if you see someone else with the same bumper sticker it brings a sense of togetherness. It can also show the statistics of voters for which the candidate has their support.
Bumper stickers remind you that you aren’t the only one who shares your belief and concern. You might think you are the only one who feels the way you do because the people in your life or the ones surrounding you don’t share your enthusiasm and passion over certain things. When you see a bumper sticker with your same point of view, idea and passion that contact lets you make a connection in which you are not alone in your fight. “You may have felt alone but you were never alone.” And now you know there are others that will stand with you.
If you “support wildlife” but no one in your life shares this passion at the level of intensity that you do seeing that one other bumper sticker which might say, “Support Wildlife” lets you know that others are just as passionate and feel as strongly as you do.
Part of the reason that certain organizations and charities send stickers for membership support into their cause is so that they can be placed on vehicles or other locations where the stickers will get noticed. Other members can then spot other members and those who may not have heard of the organization or knew nothing about their cause may become interested simply by seeing the sticker. Those interested might even come up to the member and ask about the organization.
Bumper stickers can say a lot without ever speaking a word.
