A full service Burger King restaurant is located approximately two blocks from my apartment in Hartford, Connecticut. Because I am a big fan of fast food, I usually purchase and eat menu items from that Burger King at least three times per week. A few days ago, I decided to try an order of their Funnel Cake Sticks and I’m glad that I decided to do so. To be honest, I specifically purchased this dessert item with the intention of reviewing it.
Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is one food writer’s product review of Burger King Funnel Cake Sticks.
Before I ordered this dessert item, I had no idea of how big the individual funnel cake sticks were, or of how big the entire order would be. It turns out that the individual sticks are approximately four inches long and roughly 1/2 inch wide. Although I did not get an exact count, the order of Funnel Cake Sticks that I recently purchased at Burger King restaurant contained approximately 10 funnel cake sticks. Also, the small container of dipping – icing that accompanies the cake sticks provided more than enough icing than I needed.
The regular price charged for one order of Funnel Cake Sticks at Hartford, Connecticut area Burger King restaurants is roughly $1.69. While I do not think that this price is necessarily excessive, I do think that this dessert should be a Value Menu ($1) item.
The texture of food items is a big factor when reviewing them and that definitely holds true with Burger King’s Funnel Cake Sticks. To me, these cake sticks maintain a texture that is very similar to old fashioned (plain) donuts, only in stick form. The exterior portion of the sticks features an almost – crispy, breaded – like texture and the cakes’ interior resembles a cake donut.
When the funnel cake sticks are dipped into the icing, the icing provides another dimension of texture. Overall, the texture of this Burger King dessert item is pleasing and I thought that the sticks were fun to eat.
Burger King Funnel Cake Sticks contain 300 calories per one order serving. These interesting cake sticks also contain 3 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 11 grams total fat, 10 mg of cholesterol, 210 mg of sodium, 49 grams total carbohydrates, 30 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein, per one order serving .
Taste / Flavor
When it comes to flavor, the Funnel Cake Sticks from Burger King are quite tasty. I have to admit, however, that one of the flavors that I detected while eating these sticks was what tasted like grease, specifically fryalator grease. I’m not saying that these cake sticks are greasy, but they feature a flavor that is reminiscent of deep – fried items that are sold at county fairs, circuses, flea markets and amusement parks.
When Burger King Funnel Cake Sticks are eaten plain, without the accompanying icing, they are not too sweet and they offer a mellow flavor. When the vanilla – flavored icing is applied to the sticks however, their flavor changes dramatically. The icing is very sweet and I could only eat very small amounts of it, because I thought it was a little too sweet and that it overpowered the flavor of the funnel cake sticks.
On a scale of one through ten, I would assign this dessert item a seven in terms of flavor. I also must add that the order of funnel cake sticks that I received did not contain the advertised powdered sugar that is supposed to top the sticks.
Burger King’s Funnel Cake Sticks are packaged in a fairly – flat, cardboard box. The box is easy to open and re – close and it features a cutaway hole at one end, which holds the container of icing. The container of icing is similar to small containers of barbecue sauce, tartar sauce and other condiments that restaurants include in ‘to – go’ meals.
All things considered, the Funnel Cake Sticks dessert that is offered at Burger King restaurants is an unusual item that tastes like a sweet treat you would find at a carnival or circus. Personally, I enjoyed eating eating these cake sticks, but I probably wouldn’t want to eat them on a regular basis.
If this item were to be placed on Burger King’s Value Menu, I think that it would be a good fit. These Funnel Cake Sticks are available at Burger King restaurants across America and are recommended by this food writer.
