Cafe Shane at 794 Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights was forced to shut down by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene after its last inspection on October 26, 2010. The restaurant had a total of 59 violation points and is not allowed to open until it completes required renovations.
Most of those violations include sanitary violations. There was evidence of rats, mice and flies at the last inspection. Just a few days before Cafe Shane was inspected, Brooklyn Exposed had also pointed out some of the restaurant’s major sanitation problems.
Cafe Shane’s website does not contain any update on when it will reopen, but there is a sign posted on the storefront next to a notice from the Health Department. Management believes that Cafe Shane will open its doors once again.
