This is the final article of my Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare weapons series. All important sniper information will be discussed and listed here. Important specs such as recoil, damage, magazine size, maximum ammunition and other general and specific information will be included. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare has five sniper rifles, 2 bolt action and 3 semi-automatic.
The M40 sniper rifle is not available in single player campaign. In online multiplayer, it is unlocked at level 3. The M40A3 has a 5 round clip with maximum ammunition of 40 rounds. The M40 is a bolt-action meaning you have to wait before being able to fire a consecutive shot downrange. M40A3 is unique because with ACOG, its damage is raised. With stopping power and ACOG it is a one hit kill on a non-juggernaut player no matter what body part is impacted. This makes it the strongest of all snipers as long as stopping power and ACOG are equipped. Without stopping power, the M40A3 is a rather weak sniper, requiring two shots unless the neck or head are impacted. Recoil is low enough that you will not lose sight of the target when aimed down the sights after shooting.
The M21 is used by the player in the sniper missions of the single player campaign. The M21 sniper rifle is semi-automatic, is unlocked at level 7 and has the lowest recoil of any sniper rifle. It’s also considered the weakest sniper, often requiring two shots to kill but with low recoil, putting two shots downrange and on target is rather simple. The M21 has 10 round magazines with maximum ammunition of 60 rounds. With ACOG scope equipped to the M21, the recoil is almost not present making the M21 very affective in close quarter combat.
In single player campaign, the Dragunov sniper is widely available on most missions. It is often used by the Opposing Force, the Loyalists and the Ultranationalists. In online multiplayer the Dragunov is unlocked at level 22, it is one of the three semi-automatic snipers in the game. The magazine packs ten rounds while the maximum ammunition is 60 rounds. It has moderate recoil making it slightly difficult to readjust aim after shots but it’s not as bad as the Barrett .50Cal. The Dragunov is affective without stopping power because its damage multipliers allow for one shot kills to the chest up without stopping power. The Dragunov can be golden if red tiger is unlocked for all the snipers.
The R700 is available only during the mission “The Sins of the Father” in single player campaign of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. In online multiplayer, the Remington 700 brings 4 rounds per clip, maximum ammunition of 36 rounds and it is a bolt action sniper. Recoil is very high and sway while scoped in is high as well making it one of the least accurate snipers. Factor in the low amount of ammo per magazine and you have one of the hardest sniper rifles to use in the game. It is unlocked at level 34. One advantage of the R700 is its power but that doesn’t compensate for its slow rate of fire, recoil and sway. Experienced snipers love it because being able to use the R700 with success shows off their tactical prowess.
The Barrett .50cal is used in single player during the mission “One Shot One Kill”. It has no further appearances in the campaign of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. In online multiplayer, the Barrett .50cal is the last sniper to be unlocked. It is a semi-automatic with insane recoil and power. Unlocked at level 49, the Barrett .50cal brings a 10 round magazine and has the best bullet penetration of any gun in the game. It is affective at taking out juggernaut users when equipped with stopping power and when shooting in the chest and up. It is by far the loudest gun in the game, when firing; the Barrett .50cal can be heard from across even the largest of maps. Its insane recoil makes it ineffective when fast firing. From personal experience, I would suggest you let the aim settle before firing of a consecutive shot otherwise you will just be wasting ammo and giving your position away.
Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare brought many guns to the table, from legendary assault rifles to submachine guns, shotguns, light machine guns and sniper rifles. Each and every one of these guns was replicated rather well in my opinion. The sniper rifles in particular were very well incorporated and balanced perfectly. In real life, the chance of surviving being hit by a Barrett .50cal is close to impossible, with this in mind, they made it the strongest rifle in the game but balanced it to perfection. This is the end of my Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare gun information series; I hope you learned something new from these articles.
