Starting with the full multiplayer on September 1, a lot of information and features have since been released. Many websites are posting features and weapons that have not been confirmed yet; the only things that I am writing about in this article are all confirmed by either Treyarch or have been seen in the gameplay videos.
Just like all first person shooters, Call of Duty Black Ops will feature an interactive and intense campaign, but this time around they are not having a co-op campaign like in Call of Duty World at War. Instead they are having a cooperative mode of some sort, almost like the way Infinity Ward created the Spec Ops game modes. A zombies game mode has not been confirmed yet, but Treyarch is almost sure to have the mode because of its major success in World at War.
One of the most definable traits to Call of Duty, the create a class system, has been revamped in Black Ops with Create-a-Class 2.0. The new features include tons of new weapons, perks, attachments, equipment, and a crazy emblem creator in which a graphic can be made from choosing over 300 symbols. One of the most interesting quirks with the perks is that the type of perks you choose determine how your soldier will look in the games. For example, if you choose the cold blooded perk that blocks enemy UAV, your character will be dressed in a guille suit. Here are a list of the perks:
Lightweight- just like in Modern Warfare 2
Scavenger- same as above
Flack Jacket- reduces amount of damage taken from explosives
Ghost- similar to Cold Blooded or UAV Jammer
Hardline- same as in Modern Warfare 2
Hardened- works like FMJ in MW2
Scout- increases time you can steady a weapons scope
Sleight of Hand- same as in MW2
Warlord- same as Bling in MW2
Steady Aim- same effect as in all previous Call of Duty games
Marathon- works like Extreme Conditioning in Call of Duty 4
Ninja- makes your footsteps silent
Second Chance- just like Last Stand, unknown pro ability
Hacker- works like SitRep in MW2
Tactical Mask- reduces effects of concussions and flash grenades
Next comes the COD Points. This is basically the currency that is going to be used in Black Ops that will be used to buy anything from guns to killsteaks. You will earn currency from playing matches and doing well. There is a new game mode that goes along with these COD Points, which is called the Wager Match. In this mode players will Free for All against each other and bet their money on winning. If you lose, all the money is lost, but if you win your money is doubled. If you are wondering about the standard game modes, all modes are returning from previous Call of Duty games.
Some more interesting features include a button that will allow the player to dive from a standing position into a prone position. While in this mode, the player cannot shoot, so the problem of “drop shooting” abuse has been accounted for. Additionally, players can customize their sights on their weapons and etch emblems and clan tags onto the sides of the gun.
These are just some of the features that Black Ops will be offering, and possibly more will be released when release date comes nearer. Most of what I have been writing about can be seen on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x7GDVoTS58. It is an Inside Xbox video about the upcoming game.
