Can Zenyatta make it 20 for 20 at The Breeders’ Cup in Louisville today? The current Breeders’ Cup odds will reflect a huge favorite in the fabulous filly. In fact, Churchill Downs will be buzzing as the 8-5 favorite takes to the gates for what could be a history making day. Zenyatta, if you haven’t heard, has won all 19 of her initial races. The race today could be the finale in her already story book career.
Zenyatta is a heavy favorite and that will probably change as the day progresses with The Breeders’ Cup odds. More fans will want to wager on the favorite perhaps even to capture a winning ticket for a keepsake. Why? Zenyatta is undefeated at 6 years of age. Zenyatta’s string of come from behind wins also represents another reason why the horse has been referred to as “The Queen”. Some have even called the fantastic horse the “Michael Jordan” of the horse racing world. Comparison to the greatest athletes in other sports is not uncommon for a horse that will inevitably go down in history as one of the top female or male horses in the history of the sport.
In the sport of horse racing, winning 19 straight races is nothing short of phenomenal. Everyone, or every horse in this matter, is entitled to a bad day. Zenyatta has steered clear of a bad day. In fact, Zenyatta has rallied several times to overcome bad starts or bad starting positions. That’s why Zenyatta should be an easy bet today at the Breeders’ Cup. There won’t be too many betting against a horse that will inevitably achieve a little piece of history with a perfect 20-0 career mark. Then again, it is horse racing and the Breeders’ Cup odds will certainly impact the other odds of horses–making the rest of the field a pack of virtual long shots.
The Breeders’ Cup odds will probably reflect Zenyatta as more of a heavy favorite as the day goes on. The morning odds of the Breeders’ Cup were set at 8-5. The Breeders’ Cup current odds should be posted here on Bodog.com at some point during the early morning.
When does Zenyatta actually race in The Breeders’ Cup today? Zenyatta will be among a field of 12 in the eleventh and final race at The Breeder’s Cup World Championships on Saturday.
My take on Zenyatta winning the race? While it may be tough, I think this is a horse that can certainly beat a rock solid field that includes Lookin at Lucky, Blame and Paddy O’Prado. It won’t be an easy win in such a high stakes race-but Zenyatta has proved many times that she is capable down the stretch. In horse racing, there is always a chance a heavy favorite like Zenyatta gets boxed in during the early going and never catches up. That’s where Zenyatta has a chance to shine. Even with a bad start, Zenyatta can prove she belongs in her own historical setting by overcoming early adversity to win a race against the big boys.
There are never any guarantees in this “Sport of Kings”. But one thing is for certain, a win for Zenyatta equals destiny today. A loss tarnishes a career like the perfect straight A student who landed their first B. The luster can never be regained with a defeat. Perfect is only perfect when there are no losses. The imagery of Zenyatta in the minds of horse racing analysts and fans will completely depend on what she has done lately when the gates open today at The Breeders’ Cup Classic in Louisville. What she does, regardless of The Breeders’ Cup odds, will permanently leave a mark on how she is perceived for years to come. Will Zenyatta be the horse that won all 20 of her races in a perfect storybook career? Or will Zenyatta be the horse that didn’t live up to the expectations, let alone the odds, when everything is said and done. Zenyatta will provide those answers this afternoon. My gut feeling is the answer will be a memorable one.
